Many Have Been Asking…

Posted by findleisa on October 25, 2009

IMG_1043_Oil2The location where Leisa’s body was recovered was 23 miles northwest of Barstow, 2 miles north of Lake Delores on dirt roads, N 34.98108 W 116.68328.
Our searches were being conducted approx 40 miles to the southwest based on the cell phone records that were available… apparently Jeami had his phone turned off when he did this.

I have not heard anything from the autopsy report, other than the positive ID.  It is likely that no details will be release until after Jeami’s sentencing.

Funeral Service for Leisa Ann Hurst

Posted by findleisa on October 22, 2009

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Leisa’s Body Has Been Found!!

Posted by findleisa on October 9, 2009

Today, Jeami agreed to take Barstow PD out Leisa’s body as part of a plea bargain exchange for a lesser charge of Murder in the 2nd Degree.

At 1:30 pm he was escorted by Barstow PD to an undisclosed location in the desert area outside Barstow.   At approximately 4:00 pm, the family was notified that they had located what they presume to be Leisa’s remains.

The coroner will arrive first thing in the morning to process the grave area as a crime scene as well as make a positive identification. We don’t know much more than this tonight. We should know more in the next day or two.

Posted by findleisa on June 5, 2009

Yesterday, Barstow Superior Court Judge Cheryl Kersey ruled that Jeami Chiapulis will stand trial for the murder of Leisa Hurst, in the first-degree.  If convicted he will face 25 years to life in prison.

During yesterday’s hearing, Debbie testified that there were no signs or indications that Leisa left her apartment for anything other than for errands of the day.

Barstow Det. Keith Libby testified that another apparent sexual partner of Chiapulis’ help him abandon a car that was later identified as Leisa’s Honda Element.

What police believe to be blood was located on the carpet and walls of Chiapulis’ home, and the truck area of Jeami’s car. Analysis is pending.

And finally, Chiapulis made a series of Home Depot purchases around Jan 22; a trash can, gloves, bleach, duct tape, a shovel, and a pick ax.

The final witness was Chiapulis’ cell mate at the West Valley Detention Center, who testified that during a private conversation Chiapulis confessed to Leisa’s killing.

His next court appearance, Pre-Trail for Murder in 1st Degree, was set for Jun 17, 2009.

When I called out in pain that day,
The moment that I died,
God came to me and took my hand,
And pulled me to His side.

He took me up and saved me candle
From the misery and pain.
My body was hurt so badly,
I could never be the same.

My search is really over now
I’ve found happiness with Him,
All the answers to my empty dreams
And all that might have been.

I love you all, my beloved ones
And I’ll always be nearby.
My body’s gone forever,
But my spirit will never die.

And so, you must all go on now,
And live, and understand…
God really didn’t take me from you,
He only took my hand.

Trinity Search for Leisa Hurst – Sat. 05/23/2009

Posted by findleisa on May 29, 2009

Search 2008.05.20Based on a tip, we are turning our search for Leisa’s body to the desert area to the northwest of Silver Lakes.  To date, we have been searching only to the south and southeast.

Trinity Search & Recovery took a solo flight and photographed an aerial view of the area north of Shadow Mountain and East of Hwy 395.  For the past couple of weeks the photos have been closely examined, looking for likely areas and targets to investigate by ground teams.

On Sunday 05/17/2009, the family and a few friends went out into this area to get a look at this new area and to test our ability to find a few GPS coordinates in the open desert.

Based on all this, Trinity set-up a prioritized search grid.  Several targets were identified.  The spy drone was asked to come back in and take better aerial images of the highest priority sectors.  We planned for a team of laptop operators to examine the drone’s photos real-time to call out any new targets to the ground teams.  Ideally, we wanted to equip each ground team with a reliable GPS owner/operator, a laptop loaded with Google Earth, and an ATV scout.IMG_1619

On Friday 05/22/2009, we went out to the center of the search area and parked two trailers for the command post.  Unfortunately, the drone spy plane developed some technical difficulties and the operator became ill (probably from trying too hard to get the plane operational).  Trinity, who was panning to support the drone, had to pull out as well.

On Saturday 05/23/2009, the family and a few friends went out anyway to keep checking the targets from aerial photos we already had.  It was another good test of our ability to find a GPS coordinates, and scouting potential burial sites on our own.

We will try to complete the search as originally planned with the drone plane when it becomes available again.  Thank to everyone for being flexible and making the best out of this search effort.  I think we will be in even better shape for next time.

Here are a few examples of targets from aerial photos cleared by ground teams:

184-1  176-1  166-1  221-2  163-1
